Round 2 of the SA State Series saw the debut of the Circuit Excel class as an official racing category. Eight cars were entered for the inaugural event, and more are on the way for the next round.
I took pole position in a drying session, which was a great start for me. Unfortunately the good luck ended there for Saturday, I got a bad start and was swamped by the cars behind. I had a car either side of me, making it 3 wide going into turn one. With the car on the inside unaware we were 3 wide, and the car on the outside thinking the same, both squeezed me and I ended up spinning in the middle of the first corner.
Luckily the rest of the field missed me and damage was minimal. I recovered to forth in race 1 and advanced to second in race 2.
Sunday was a different story. I grabbed the lead in race 3 and held on to win from my old Formula Vee rival, Mark Foster, who had won the first 2 races.
Starting from pole position again, this time I made sure I got a good start, and never looked back.
I took a comfortable win to round out the weekend.
Thanks to Trev Pound for lending me a car for the weekend. After a bumpy start, we got the result we were after!
